What is an emotional assessment?

It is a process to understand what is happening with a person's mood, anxiety or emotional regulation, and whether it corresponds to a disorder such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress or another condition. It allows choosing the right treatment instead of guessing.

How is it done?

With one or more clinical interviews about symptoms, their duration and how they affect daily life, plus validated questionnaires or psychological tests. For children and teenagers, information is also gathered from parents and sometimes the school.

Who performs it?

A clinical psychologist or psychiatrist. As a physician, the psychiatrist also rules out physical causes, such as thyroid problems or medication effects, and assesses whether medication is needed.

What do you receive at the end?

A clear explanation of the findings, a diagnosis when appropriate and treatment recommendations: psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluation, lifestyle changes or other support. It may include a written report.
