Wisdom Teeth

What are wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the last teeth at the back of the mouth. They may develop without causing problems, but when there is not enough space, they can become impacted or grow in an improper position.

When should wisdom teeth be removed?

Removal may be recommended when wisdom teeth cause pain, swelling, infections, cavities, gum problems, or damage to neighboring teeth. Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed; the decision depends on their position and a dental evaluation.

Which specialist should you see for wisdom teeth?

A dentist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon can evaluate wisdom teeth and determine whether removal is necessary. Impacted wisdom teeth or complex cases may require evaluation by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
