What is hair biostimulation?
Hair biostimulation is a treatment protocol aimed at optimizing hair health, stopping hair loss, and treating alopecia. It is also known as capillary biorevitalization. The plasma obtained from the patient's own blood during the procedure—through extraction and injection or micropuncture—helps stimulate this process. This plasma is rich in growth and stimulating factors.
Additionally, different active ingredients are used to address local causes of scalp disorders that lead to acute or chronic hair loss at various severity levels.
This treatment is often combined with low-intensity light therapy (LED) for excellent results, leaving more and more satisfied patients worldwide.
What are the benefits of hair biostimulation?
The benefits of hair biostimulation include:
- Regeneration of hair cells by stimulating the production of new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
- Increased vascularization of the hair follicle, helping weak hair regain optimal health conditions.
- This results in shinier, stronger hair with improved density (thickness), vitality, elasticity, and resistance.
Who can undergo hair biostimulation?
Hair biostimulation is suitable for anyone looking to improve their hair’s appearance.
- Individuals who want to stimulate hair growth.
- People who need to treat alopecia (alopecia areata, androgenetic alopecia, etc.).
- Those experiencing acute hair loss (postpartum, post-bariatric surgery, rapid weight loss, viral infections like COVID-19, etc.).
- People with chronic hair loss (anorexia, systemic diseases, medication use, etc.).
- Patients who have undergone a hair transplant.
- For these patients, it serves as a complementary and preventive treatment to strengthen low-density areas that were not part of the transplant and could be affected in the future.
A thorough patient examination (physical and trichoscopic) is always recommended to make an accurate diagnosis and choose the appropriate treatment protocol.
How many sessions of hair biostimulation are needed to see results?
On average, between 3 and 6 sessions of hair biostimulation are needed to see results.
How is hair biostimulation performed?
Hair biostimulation is performed using robotic microneedling devices and/or capillary mesotherapy. It is then followed by low-intensity light (LED) therapy.
What types of hair biostimulation are currently available?
There are two types of hair biostimulation:
- Autologous: This method does not use medications. It involves spraying plasma onto the scalp through robotic microneedling. Plasma can also be injected directly, but this method tends to be less comfortable since the penetration of plasma can cause a burning sensation that some patients may find intolerable.
- Combined: This method mixes external medications or active ingredients with the plasma naturally generated in the scalp during the procedure. It provides the most benefits, as research has shown that combining techniques yields better results in less time.
What are the contraindications for hair biostimulation?
In general, there are no contraindications for hair biostimulation. However, I do not perform this treatment on patients with:
- Active local infections, such as herpes simplex.
- Active neuralgia.
- Some uncontrolled autoimmune diseases.
