What Causes Cavities?

It is very important to understand the causes of cavities and how to identify the symptoms. Cavities are caused by bacteria in dental plaque, which forms due to food or drink residues that are not properly removed from the mouth.

How Do I Know If I Have a Cavity?

In its early stages, a cavity does not present any symptoms. However, when it advances, it can cause tooth pain or sensitivity to sweets, cold, or heat.

If left untreated, it can develop into an infection, leading to the formation of an abscess (pus), which may cause anything from sharp pain to facial swelling and fever. At this stage, a root canal treatment may be necessary.

The best way to detect cavities early is through annual dental check-ups.

Root Canal: The Last Option to Save a Diseased Tooth!

You have probably heard the term "root canal treatment," which is the common name for an endodontic procedure. This is one of the most frequently used treatments in dentistry and aims to save a tooth that is considered dead, diseased, or damaged.

Although other factors can contribute to this condition, in most cases, it is caused by deep cavities.

What Are the Symptoms Indicating a Need for a Root Canal?

The symptoms that may indicate a need for a root canal include:

  • Sensitivity to cold or heat
  • Discomfort when chewing
  • Tooth discoloration, turning darker
  • Formation of an abscess
