Bariatric Surgeon in Barranquilla

If you are looking for a bariatric surgeon in Barranquilla, MedicosDoc helps you find specialists experienced in the comprehensive treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases. Bariatric surgery is designed to help people with severe obesity achieve significant and long-term weight loss while improving obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, and joint pain. Before recommending surgery, the specialist performs a complete evaluation to determine whether you are a suitable candidate and which procedure is the best option.

What does a bariatric surgeon treat?

A bariatric surgeon specializes in the surgical treatment of obesity and its related health conditions. They work alongside a multidisciplinary team that may include nutritionists, endocrinologists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to help patients achieve lasting weight loss and improve their overall health.

Bariatric surgery can help improve or even resolve conditions such as:

Type 2 diabetes

High blood pressure

Obstructive sleep apnea

High cholesterol and triglycerides

Fatty liver disease

Knee and joint pain

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in selected patients

When should you see a bariatric surgeon?

Bariatric surgery is generally recommended for people with obesity who have not achieved lasting weight loss through diet, exercise, and medical treatment. Your surgeon will evaluate your Body Mass Index (BMI), overall health, and obesity-related medical conditions.

You may be a candidate for bariatric surgery if you have:

Class I obesity (BMI 30–34.9) with significant metabolic diseases such as difficult-to-control type 2 diabetes

Class II obesity (BMI 35–39.9) with obesity-related conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, or sleep apnea

Class III obesity (BMI 40 or higher), also known as severe or morbid obesity, even without associated medical conditions

You should also consult a bariatric surgeon if excess weight is affecting your daily activities, your quality of life, or if you have made multiple unsuccessful attempts to lose weight.

What bariatric procedures are available?

The most appropriate procedure depends on your medical condition and weight-loss goals. Common bariatric surgeries include:

Sleeve Gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve Surgery)

Gastric Bypass Surgery

Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery

Metabolic Surgery for Type 2 Diabetes

Revision Bariatric Surgery

Removal or management of an intragastric balloon when indicated

Most bariatric procedures are performed using minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, allowing for less pain, smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery.

How much does a bariatric surgery consultation cost in Barranquilla?

A private consultation with a bariatric surgeon typically costs between COP $150,000 and COP $250,000, depending on the specialist and medical facility. During the consultation, the surgeon will review your medical history, calculate your BMI, evaluate any necessary tests, and determine whether bariatric surgery is the right treatment for you.
