What does a pediatric gastroenterologist do?

A pediatric gastroenterologist is a medical specialist who evaluates, diagnoses, and treats diseases and problems of the digestive system in children and adolescents.

When should a child see a pediatric gastroenterologist?

It is recommended to consult a pediatric gastroenterologist when a child has recurrent or severe digestive symptoms, or symptoms that do not improve with usual measures. Frequent abdominal pain, persistent constipation, recurrent diarrhea, vomiting, blood in the stool, difficulty swallowing, frequent reflux, or problems related to feeding and growth are some of the reasons to seek a specialized evaluation.

Where can I find a pediatric gastroenterologist in Bogotá?

In Bogotá, pediatric gastroenterologists are available at different clinics, medical centers, and private practices. Through MedicosDoc, you can find specialists who see patients at institutions such as Clínica de Marly and at private offices in different areas of Bogotá, including Chapinero, Usaquén, Chicó, Cedritos, and Teusaquillo. You can review each specialist's profile, learn about their experience, and choose the pediatric gastroenterologist who best fits your child's needs.

How much does a pediatric gastroenterologist appointment cost in Bogotá?

The cost of an appointment with a pediatric gastroenterologist in Bogotá can vary depending on the specialist, their experience, the location of the practice, and the services included in the consultation. As a general reference, a private appointment may cost approximately between COP $250,000 and COP $350,000. It is recommended to confirm the current fee and appointment details directly with each specialist before scheduling.

What tests may a pediatric gastroenterologist order?

Depending on the child's symptoms, medical history, and the results of the evaluation, a pediatric gastroenterologist may order different tests to identify the cause of a digestive problem. These may include blood tests, stool studies, an abdominal ultrasound, and other specific diagnostic tests. In some cases, a digestive endoscopy may be recommended to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum and obtain more detailed information about certain gastrointestinal conditions.

How should I prepare for a pediatric gastroenterologist appointment?

To make the most of the appointment, it is helpful to bring previous test results, medical reports, and a list of any medications or supplements the child is taking. It can also be useful to write down the child's symptoms, when they started, how often they occur, which foods seem to be associated with them, and how they have changed over time. If the child has changes in bowel movements, information about the frequency, consistency, and characteristics of the stools can also help the specialist during the evaluation.
