A speech therapist (speech-language pathologist) is the professional specialist in disorders of speech, language, social and cognitive communication, as well as swallowing. They evaluate, diagnose, and treat conditions that affect oral communication, pronunciation, language comprehension, voice, and the ability to swallow, using specific therapeutic techniques, exercises, and activities tailored to each patient. They work with people of all ages, from children to older adults. It is recommended to seek this specialist when there are difficulties with speech, language, communication, or swallowing, in order to receive a complete evaluation and a personalized treatment plan that promotes optimal development and functionality in these areas.
