Dental Inlays and Onlays

Dental inlays and onlays are restorations used to repair teeth damaged by extensive decay or fractures when a conventional filling may not be sufficient, but a full crown is not necessary. They are custom-made, usually from ceramic or composite resin, to restore the tooth's shape, function, and strength while preserving some of its natural structure.

Which specialist performs dental inlays and onlays?

Restorative dentists and specialists in prosthodontics can provide dental inlays and onlays. The dentist assesses the damage to determine whether an inlay or onlay is more appropriate than a filling or a crown.

What types of dental inlays and onlays are available?

Inlays fit within the tooth's cusps, onlays cover one or more cusps, and overlays cover a larger portion of the tooth's surface. They can be made from ceramic or composite resin, depending on the clinical needs.

How much do dental inlays and onlays cost?

The price depends on the material, the size of the restoration, and the extent of the tooth damage. A dental consultation helps determine the appropriate treatment and its cost.
