What is a venereologist?
A venereologist is a physician specialized in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), also known as venereal diseases. This specialty focuses on identifying infections that affect the skin and mucous membranes of the genital area, such as warts, sores, abnormal discharge, or irritation that may be related to infections transmitted through sexual contact.

When should you see a venereologist?
It is recommended to see a venereologist if you experience symptoms such as genital warts, sores or blisters in the intimate area, unusual discharge, burning during urination, genital itching, pain during sexual intercourse, or any changes in the skin of the genital area. It is also advisable to consult a specialist if you have had unprotected sexual contact or if you want a preventive evaluation to rule out sexually transmitted infections.

What diseases does a venereologist treat?
A venereologist treats different sexually transmitted infections such as human papillomavirus (HPV), genital herpes, syphilis, gonorrhea, chancroid, molluscum contagiosum, genital warts, genital fungal infections, and other conditions that affect the skin and intimate areas. Early diagnosis helps start the appropriate treatment and prevents complications or transmission to others.

Where can you find a good venereologist in Colombia?
In Colombia, you can find experienced venereology specialists through trusted medical directories such as MedicosDoc, where you can search for dermatologists and doctors specialized in sexually transmitted diseases in different cities across the country.
