Diet for patients with gastrointestinal diseases

Gastrointestinal diseases are usually caused by periodic irritations of the gastrointestinal tract due to one of the following factors:

  • Alcohol
  • Prolonged fasting
  • Stress
  • Associated diseases
  • Bad eating habits
  • Cigarette

Recommendations to improve your discomfort:

  • Avoid acidic drinks and condiments (juices, sodas, vinegar, citrus fruits, sodas).
  • Avoid dairy products made with whole milk or goat's milk (yogurt, double cream cheese, cream or heavy cream, butter, margarine.)
  • Avoid high-content foods (fried, duck breasts, pork bacon, chicken skin, sausages and salami, mortadelas, jellies, etc).
  • Avoid cooked grains: (lentils, peas, beans, chickpeas, beans, etc)
  • Increase the consumption of raw vegetables in salads, especially green leafy ones.
  • Avoid the consumption of hot spices such as chili and peppers, as well as tomato, garlic and radish.
  • Completely stop smoking and tobacco use.
  • Eat fractionally in a number of 6 to 8 servings a day (that is, every 2 or 3 hours).
  • Do not consume strong alcoholic beverages such as brandy, vodka, whiskey, rum, tequila and consume wine, use a soft one on the palate in quantity of no more than a medium glass and always with dinner or lunch. It is well understood that its consumption should not be frequent either and from every point of view, drunkenness should be avoided.
  • Avoid drinking water or herbal teas on an empty stomach as they increase gastric acidity and promote gastroesophageal reflux.
  • Consume nuts, such as walnuts, peanuts, almonds, and dates between meals.
  • Eat foods rich in fiber.
  • Learn to manage stress, leaning towards recreational activities that deviate from your daily routine and that do not require infrastructure or sophisticated circumstances to carry them out.
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep a day.

  • Instructions for patients with irritable bowel

    1. All meals must have a maximum of three different foods, for example: a flour (rice or potato) a meat, which should not be stewed and a vegetable (only one without milk or butter)
    2. Foods that you should NOT eat (if you confirm they do not suit you): Milk, banana, plantain, melon, cabbage, soft drinks, spicy foods, grains (beans, dried peas, chickpeas) paisa-style dishes with many different foods in the same plate
    3. You should never consume fruits or juices with meals. They can be consumed three hours before or three hours after each meal.
    4. You should never eat fruits in mixed salads, much less with heavy cream. Fruits should be consumed one at a time, for example only orange.
    5. . Vegetables should never be consumed in mixed salads, much less with sauces either with milk or butter. Vegetables should be eaten one at a time, for example just beans.
    6. You can consume celery water with meals to reduce gas. In general, avoid any food or group of them that you feel you do not like. This is a disease that is managed with dietary measures, if you follow the diet you improve, but if you DO NOT follow it, you will have problems again.
