Quadriplegia is a medical condition of paralysis caused by illness or injury that results in the partial or total loss of use of all four limbs and torso; paraplegia refers to partial loss of use, tetraplegia refers to total loss. A person with quadriplegia has nearly full paralysis of all four limbs. Quadriplegia is caused by damage to the spinal cord at the cervical vertebrae level (C1-C7, or neck area). This type of injury usually results from car crashes, diving accidents, violence, falls, and sports injuries.
A physical therapist is a professional specialized in repairing and restoring the physical mobility of patients who have suffered some type of physical trauma. It uses various techniques, such as therapeutic exercises, massage, electrotherapy, and manipulative methods to relieve pain, improve mobility, and strengthen muscles. It is advisable to see a physiotherapist after an injury, surgery, accident or if chronic mobility and pain problems occur, to receive appropriate treatment that facilitates recovery and improves quality of life.
Remember that for the proper selection of health professional that treats quadriplegia you must consider the nature, severity and symptoms you are presenting.
