RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX

Raise the head of your bed about 15 - 20 cm, making it level with the headboard legs. The special anti-reflux pillows are also recommended.

We recommend not smoking. Nicotine relaxes the esophageal valve that helps prevent reflux, also slows the healing process of inflammation of the esophagus and stomach.

Maintain an appropriate weight for your size. Remember, being overweight favors reflux.

Avoid lying down within 3 hours after eating. Don't nap after lunch.

Don't wear tight clothing.

Dinner is at 6pm with fruits with little liquid.

Avoid exercising, bending over, and lifting heavy objects after eating or drinking.

Avoid the following foods and drinks: alcohol, chocolate. mints. fats. puff pastry. Acidic and sparkling drinks, black or red drinks: coffee, tea, chocolate, black or red sodas, highly seasoned sauces. spicy vinaigrettes. condiments. mustard. Raw onion and garlic, no beer.

Make a list of the medications that, for chronic diseases, you should use daily and inform your doctor. Some medications that can promote reflux are: Verapamil, Nifedipine, Salbutamol, Theophylline, Corticosteroids, Oral contraceptives or hormonal treatments.
