Occupational Exams in Colombia

In Colombia, the performance of occupational examinations is regulated by Resolution 2346 of 2007 and Resolution 1918 of 2009 as an obligation of employers to organize and guarantee the operation of the occupational health program, being an important instrument in the preparation of the diagnoses of the health conditions of the companies.

What are the types of occupational medical evaluations in Colombia?


  1. Medical entrance examination: are those that are carried out before the worker enters the company to know the state of health of it.
  2. Periodic medical examination: they are carried out to monitor the risk exposure of workers.
  3. Retirement medical examination: they are carried out when the worker ends an employment relationship.

The employer must order the performance of other types of occupational medical evaluations, such as post-disability or reinstatement, to identify health conditions that may be aggravated or that may interfere with work or affect third parties, due to particular situations.
