Breast Augmentation - Augmentation mammoplasty
Breast augmentation is the plastic surgery whereby implants are inserted to increase the size and improve the shape of the breasts. There are different types of breast implant devices available in Colombia, such as saline, silicone gel filler, and cohesive gel filler. The choice of the implant depends on the recommendations of the plastic surgeon in Colombia.
Mammoplasty in Colombia with breast implants is performed mainly to improve the appearance of enlarged or asymmetric breasts, or after reconstruction after a mastectomy (removal of breasts).
Breast Reduction - Reduction mammoplasty
Mammoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that involves removing excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to create smaller, better-shaped breasts. Often times, the areola (the dark area around the nipple) will also shrink.
During a mammoplasty procedure, excess skin is removed from the lower part of the breast and then the areola of the nipple is relocated higher up the breast for a more youthful appearance.
Mastopexy - Breast Lift Surgery
The goal of a mastopexy is to lift the breast to a more youthful position and create a natural and cheerful appearance. In addition to lifting the breasts, excess skin will be removed from the lower half of the breast area, as well as from under each arm.
Mastopexy and augmentation mammoplasty are two of the most common types of plastic surgery performed on women. The reasons for choosing these procedures vary, but some popular reasons include:
- Make breast size and shape more aesthetically pleasing.
- Repair a birth defect.
- Restore a breast that has lost volume due to pregnancy, drug use, weight loss, or natural aging.
While some women choose to have a mastopexy in conjunction with their mammoplasty, the procedure is suitable for most women, as long as the woman does not have any underlying medical conditions. The plastic surgeon is the one who should tell you if you are a candidate for this procedure.
Breast Reconstruction surgery
Breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure to restore the shape and feel of the breasts after a mastectomy or injury .
Breast reconstruction is an option for most women after breast cancer surgery, but it is important to note that not all women will be candidates. The best candidates for breast reconstruction are:
- Women with small tumors who have undergone lumpectomy and radiation therapy
- Women with large tumors who have undergone mastectomy and radiation therapy
Breast reconstruction is usually done in conjunction with a nipple-sparing mastectomy. This type of surgery connects the breast tissue with the blood vessels and muscles so that sensation and movement are preserved after the procedure. Most women who have a nipple-sparing mastectomy will also have a breast implant during the reconstruction phase.
